The Club was founded in 1958 and currently has over 200 members with the membership number slowly increasing each year. The majority of members live in the Canterbury / Whitstable / Herne Bay and Thanet areas, but others come from around Dover / Deal / Folkestone as well as Maidstone / Medway and beyond. The club has acquired the reputation of being 'The Friendly Club' and new members are always welcome. Please feel free to join us for up to 3 of our walks before deciding whether or not to join. Just turn up and make your presence known to the leader. Walk descriptions are listed in the 'Walks Programme' section of this website, along with a grid reference and contact details of the walk leader.

Walks are currently held on Sundays (subject to leader availability) and Wednesdays with normally two walks to choose from. A longer walk is generally 10 - 12 miles in distance with a 10.00 a.m. start time and a 1 hour lunch break as well as morning and afternoon breaks for a 10 minute 'water stop'. The walk is usually completed in about 5 hours. A shorter walk with a 10.30 a.m. start time and around 5 miles in distance is generally at a more leisurely pace. For both walks, a lunch stop is usually arranged close to a pub or tea shop etc. While some members prefer to take a picnic lunch, others often buy their food at the pub / tea room - please check the the programme for more information and contact the walk leader if you are unsure about anything.

In addition to the programme of weekly walks, the club also arranges a variety of social events during the year, e.g. skittles, bat-and-trap, an annual walking holiday (Yorkshire Wolds Way based at Bridlington in May 2018) and a day's excursion for a walk 'away from our usual area'.

While the club is affiliated to the Ramblers Association (RA), it is not one of the RA's named groups for this area, and it is not a requirement for our members to be a member of the RA. We do charge an annual membership fee, currently £6, which is payable each April. For more information, please contact our membership secretary by email: EKramblers@gmail.com
